As we all know, aging brings all kinds of changes, and while you may feel wiser and more confident, your body might be asking for a little extra love. Enter the humble coconut: a tropical gem that’s more than just a pretty face! Packed with nutrients, coconut is the perfect ally for us women, supporting everything from heart health to that gorgeous glow. Here are a few things I’ve been using coconut oil for:
Heart
The saturated fats in coconut (the good kind!) help increase HDL or “good” cholesterol levels, which can reduce your risk of heart disease—a win for that ticker of yours! For added heart-boosting benefits, coconut is loaded with medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) that provide a quick source of energy, so you can keep up with life’s demands.
Oil Pulling (sounds gross but it truly works!)
This ancient practice of swishing coconut oil around in your mouth for 10-20 minutes not only strengthens your teeth and gums but also improves oral hygiene. Coconut oil has antibacterial properties that can combat the nasties in your mouth, reducing plaque and giving you a fresher smile. It’s like a mini workout for your mouth—just make sure no one’s around, as it’s not the most glamorous look!
Hint: I actually do this in the shower three times a week and use a tiny paper cup to spit it out in. Wait til it turns to a solid then it throw out.
Skin
Coconut oil can be a fantastic natural moisturizer, especially for drier skin that’s common post-40. IT’s great for the neck too. Trust me. Get yourself a jade roller and while watching TV, roll those pesky little wrinkles out. A light application post-shower will keep you hydrated, and that sweet coconutty scent is like a mini vacation in a bottle.
So, next time you’re reaching for the expensive “age-defying” cream, remember there’s a superstar waiting for you in the coconut aisle. A little oil in the kitchen, a little on the toothbrush, and a little in the beauty routine—coconut oil has got you covered.
“Pulling” with coconut oil sounds weird, I get it. But here is some more information on this ancient practice:
